Later, Dr. Jemison joined NASA and became a crew member of the space shuttle Endeavor. After her travels in space, she left NASA to start companies and to continue researching how to get to a new star. Below you will find the February STE(A)M Classroom Challenge per grade:
PRE K- 1st Grade: It’s Rocket Science
Students were given a coloring book about Mae with an additional activity in which they could write something they learned about Dr. Jemison.
Their objective was to make a rocket with an empty paper towel roll, paper (any kind), foil, scissors, glue, and tape.
2nd- 5th grade: Rocket to the Moon
Students were given an activity sheet called "Who is Mae Jemison?" with an additional activity in which they can write something they learned about Dr. Jemison.
Their objective was to create a model rocket that could be launched using an empty paper towel roll, paper (any kind), and tape.
