Each year Monument Square District (MSD) works to beautify downtown Urbana. This process involves the placement of flowers on the square and in the center of the roundabout. Watering the flowers has proved quite difficult and involved several trips until now thanks to the generous donations from Weidmann Electrical Technology.

Beautification projects are always important aspects to a community for economic and community development projects.  Champaign Economic Partnership Director, Marcia Bailey introduced Mark Hunter, Weidmann and Vicki Deere Bunnell, MSD for a further discussion after learning Weidmann was interested in helping with these types of projects in Urbana.

Mark Hunter and employees at Weidmann Electrical Technology came together to develop a watering system for Monument Square District. For the last year, the two organizations have worked together to create a system that would be functional and easy to use. Weidmann graciously donated this watering system to Monument Square District.

Vicki Deere-Bunnell, MSD Board President, volunteers many hours in the morning, evenings and weekends keeping the flowers watered and maintained. This system will save her along with other MSD volunteers time that can be used to work on other community projects.

The City of Urbana has also assisted in this local project with the installation of flower baskets on the downtown poles, along with allowing
Monument Square District access to water systems on the square to ease their watering process.
