Update 7/8/19 – Phase 3 begins and is expected to last roughly 44 days. Crews opened North Main Street and closed Scioto Street. Temporary striping has been placed on North Main Street. Crews also installed detour signage for the Scioto Street closure. Please follow the posted detour. Update 7/1/19 – The 100 block of North Main Street is set to reopen July 8th. The 100 block of Scioto Street will be the next work zone. See press release 7/1/19 Update 6/25/19 – The contractor continues to work daily on Phase 2 of the project (North Main Street leg of the intersection). The water main installation is substantially complete, and the contractor has now started on concrete work, including sidewalks and curb and gutter. The contractor will continue with these surface improvements in order to wrap up this phase of the project. On or about July 8th, the contractor will reopen North Main Street to traffic. After North Main Street is reopened, the contractor will start work on Phase 3 which will involve the closure of Scioto Street from Monument Square to Locust Street. Update 6/12/19 – Phase 2 (North Main Street leg) is progressing well. Trench restorations are underway. The next key component is surface improvements as the north leg of the roundabout approach wraps up. The contractor’s 41-day posted closure is expected to be used in full to complete the work. On or about July 1st will be the switchover to Phase 3 (Scioto Street leg). Update 5/28/19 - Phase 1 is largely complete. The new truck apron has been constructed around the base of the monument. Phase 2 started on 5/20/2019 with the closure of North Main Street (US Route 68 North) between Monument Square and Court Street. Local and state route detours are posted. As of this date, construction crews are working on the installation of the new water main. Update 5/6/19 - CONSTRUCTION BEGINS. Phase 1 begins in the center circle. See the full schedule here. Update 4/25/19 - Mailing to downtown properties and businesses is sent 4/23, releasing the proposed schedule, sequence and detour routes. It also invites those interested to a public open house Tuesday 4/30 at either 3:00 PM or 7:00 PM. See letter 4/23/19. The Urbana Daily Citizen publishes a related press release 4/25. Update 4/19/19 - R.B. Jergens releases their proposed schedule and plans to begin construction on the center truck apron beginning Monday, 5/6. Update 4/16/19 - City Council approves True Inspection Services (TIS) of Urbana as the inspection, testing and construction management consultant. Update 4/2/19 - Coverage of Urbana's proposed roundabout project is seen on the WHIO Channel 7 evening news 4/1, on the Springfield News-Sun website 4/2 and on the Urbana Daily Citizen website 3/30. Update 3/26/19 - NPL on behalf of Columbia Gas of Ohio will be performing small gas line relocations at various spots around downtown in preparation for the City’s US 36/US 68 Intersection Improvement Project. The gas work should begin the week of 4/1. Public parking areas will be affected as NPL tries to avoid the travel lanes. Update 3/20/19 - R.B. Jergens Contractors of Vandalia approved by Council as the contractor with the lowest and best bid at a price of $1,808,913.09. Update 3/11/19 - Rebid date for the US 36/US 68 Intersection Improvement Project (ODOT PID 103793, CHP-US36-14.88). Update 2/19/19 - Letters were sent to owners and businesses within the downtown district notifying them of approaching construction and what to expect.
