Urbana UMC Invites Everyone to Christmas Eve on Main Street Including Live Nativity, Caroling and Services

12/22/2022

Picture
The Urbana United Methodist Church welcomes the community to join in celebrating Christmas Eve on Main Street.
The celebration will begin from 6 to 7 p.m., with a live Nativity in front of the church, at 238 N. Main St., Urbana. All are invited to carol on the church steps and enjoy hot drinks, while viewing the live Nativity, which will include a cow, donkey, alpaca, camel, sheep and goats.

At 7 p.m. the celebration will move into the church for a family Christmas Eve service. The service will feature a Christmas kids’ choir and an interactive message for families.

At 11 p.m., the celebration will conclude with the traditional Christmas Eve candlelight and carols service.

Everyone is welcome, but if you can’t attend in person, the services will be livestreamed on Urbana UMC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel or from the church website, urbanaumc.com.

Offering collected at the Christmas Eve services will support three initiatives:

  • 40 percent to the WhereHouse Food Pantry, which distributes about 35 tons of food a year to under-resourced families in Champaign County

  • 30 percent to Vacation Bible School, which in 2022 reached 86 children and 300 people through the Food Truck Friday celebration following VBS

  • 30 percent to the Toledo Faith Outreach Center in Belize, which is led by Pastor Victor Hernandez, who has visited Urbana UMC many times. Toledo Faith Outreach is one of the most dynamic churches in Belize, sharing God’s love in tangible ways with their community and surrounding district.

West Liberty-Salem's first graders visited the Ohio Theatre Friday morning to see the iconic holiday ballet The Nutcracker. This annual field trip is one of our elementary favorites.  The awe and excitement as our students enter the beautiful Ohio Theatre for the first time is an absolute favorite experience for our teachers.  Many are seeing the beautiful theatre and show for the very first time.  The memories were priceless as we immersed our students into the fine arts culture of theatre!  Mrs. Spencer and Mrs. Patton are pictured with their first graders ready to see the show!

Marysville, Ohio – At its core, Memorial Health has a heart for the communities and residents it serves. During the holidays, the healthcare organization takes the opportunity to celebrate the work of a local young artist, and in addition, contributes to charities making a difference in the region.

For fourteen years, Memorial Health has undertaken an annual holiday card design contest with local schools. Zaydee Cox, a fourth grader at West Liberty-Salem Elementary School, won this year’s Memorial Health Holiday Card Design Contest. Cox received a $100 gift card from Memorial for her artistic endeavors. Pictured at the award presentation, left to right, is Kevin, Zaydee, and Susan Cox, along with Kirsten Hoelscher, Marketing & PR Specialist at Memorial.

The Memorial Health Board of Trustees also recently voted to contribute to the holiday efforts of local community organizations who help Union and Champaign County residents in need.
Melanie Ziegler, Memorial Health Vice President of Community Engagement, notified nine non-profits about the donations, including Care Train of Union County, Community Christmas in Urbana, the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Hope Center, Milford Center Food Pantry, North Union Personal Needs Pantry, Oasis of Mercy Food Pantry of Mechanicsburg, Plain City Daily Needs Assistance, and The Caring Kitchen of Urbana.

“We applaud the unwavering efforts of these organizations every year, but even more so during the last few years,” comments Ziegler. “Memorial is proud to stand alongside these groups in the communities we serve and it brings great joy to support them as they continue to provide much-needed assistance for our area residents.”
