vita(Volunteer income tax assistance) site coordinator

11/11/2019

Picture
Bridges Community Action Partnership (Bridges CAP) seeks to empower people in need by partnering with them to better their lives and realize personal prosperity. Every year each of us must file a federal, state, and local income tax return. For many people, the thought of filing taxes produces anxiety and therefore give the task of preparing and filing taxes to someone else.

Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program files federal income tax returns free of charge for low- to moderately low-income households. Our Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) provides free tax preparation services to households 60 years of age and older. The VITA/TCE Site Coordinator supports the training and preparation of VITA/TCE volunteers before tax season and is responsible for the smooth day-to-day operation of assigned VITA/TCE site(s) across Delaware, Union, Madison, Champaign, Logan, and Shelby Counties. Serving as the contact for assigned site(s) and acting as the direct supervisor to valued volunteers, the Site Coordinator’s duties include site operation, volunteer management, taxpayer relations, record-keeping, and tax return processing and follow-up. Bridges CAP is looking for qualified candidates for Site Coordinators in all counties, EXCEPT Union County.

One Bridges CAP's best success stories of the 2018 tax season was our partnership with Urbana University. Students, staff and faculty all donated their time to provide tax preparation services through the VITA/TCE program in coordination with an ACCT 411 Tax Practicum 4 credit hour course offered through UU. This partnership helps UU fulfill its vision for preparing people towards meaningful careers, leadership and service to humanity.

If you have prior tax preparation experience and are interested in Site Coordination or want to learn about preparing taxes and volunteering your time to this program please contact either Bill Pettibone (937-772-9322) or william.pettibone@urbana.edu or Ross Cunningham (937-642-4968) or rcunningham@bridgescap.org.
