Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in Nursing required
  • Ohio Department of Education School Nurse licensure preferred, but not required
  • Must be a self-starter, have effective management skills, and have a passion for children
  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
  • Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team

Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to the nursing process, and implements a resident plan of care.
  • Performs direct nursing services such as administering treatments and to assist in assessments and evaluation; assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Delegates suitable components of care to nursing assistants; provides guidance and supervision when necessary.
  • Assists in resident and family health teaching and rehabilitation.
  • Consults and validates data with the RN/LPN; records and reports pertinent information; provides explanations to families and other staff.
  • Recognizes and reports safety hazards.
  • May assume team leader duties when assigned under the direction of an RN/LPN.
  • Identifies and evaluates the resident’s response to health problems and treatments.
  • Communicates resident care needs and approach to other personnel involved in care.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development; plans and/or participates in conferences and classes to improve knowledge and practice resident care; attends in-service programs and monthly staff meetings that are provided to facilitate compliance with government regulations.
  • Participates in the nursing service quality assurance program.
  • Interprets philosophy and objectives of the facility and the nursing service to residents, families, and other employees when necessary.
  • Other duties upon request.

Qualifications:
  • Licensed Nurse in the state of Ohio
  • Experience in nursing preferred, not required

Nursing Assistant/Unit Clerk

Mercy Health Urbana Hospital is hiring a part-time Nursing Assistant/Unit Clerk (Med Surg) to work days and nights.

Work in cooperation and in conjunction with the nurse manager(s), registered nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel. This position requires the ability to manager one’s time effectively and prioritize responsibilities to provide optimal work efficiency.

Therapeutic Care:
  • Provides safe, therapeutic care, considering the age, growth and development, and specific needs of the patient population serviced.
  • Performs therapeutic measures and procedures to patients including such tasks as:
    1. Takes and records vital signs accurately (reports Abnormalities to the nurse): a. Temperatures (oral, rectal, axillary), pulse (radial, apical) and respirations.
    2. Measures and records blood pressures (manual and dynamap)
    3. Height and weight C. Prepares for, collects and transports various specimens hospital lab.
  • Provides for the physical care of assigned patients by Performing those tasks that have been previously taught and demonstrated through competency testing. These tasks are assigned and directed by the registered nurse:
    1. Provides bath, skin care, mouth care, hair care, foley care and peri care.
    2. Maintains patient privacy while giving care.
    3. Turns and repositions patients.
    4. Assists with sitz bats, enemas and douches.
    5. Ambulate patients, assists/supervises physical activities.
    6. Assists and feeds patients.
    7. Measures and records intake/outputs, percentages of meals consumed.
    8. Performs bedside blood glucose monitoring accurately and reports findings to the nurse.
    9. Provides physical preparation of pre-operative patient.
    10. Performs care after death.
    11. Performs preventative measure for skin care.
    12. Assists in the admission of a patient by taking vital signs, measuring height/weight and other tasks as assigned.
    13. Supports the nursing process when providing care considering the basic physical, spiritual, and psychosocial needs of assigned patients.
    14. Transports patients by cart, wheelchair or surgilift using Safety practices.
    15. Follows standard precautions when providing care.
Comfort and Safety:
  • Provides safe, effective nursing care to patients utilizing comfort and preventative measures.
  • Follows good body mechanics when caring or assisting in the care of patients.
  • Applies and maintains bed/chair/personal alarms.
  • Considers legal and confidential implications while caring for patients.
  • Assists patients with religious and cultural requirements.
  • Reports patient complaints of pain/discomfort to nurse promptly.
  • Provides non-pharmalogic comfort measures when possible e.g. repositioning, relaxation techniques, distraction.
Clerical Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the preparation of forms and information required for admissions, discharges and/or transfers of patients.
    1. Assembles medical record.
    2. Disassembles charts upon discharge.
    3. Copies charts for transfers.
    4. Uses fax machine when appropriate.
    5. Faxes information to appropriate hospital department /physician offices.
  • Provides test results and procedure reports to nurse for follow up.
  • Assists physicians and staff to locate patients’ medical records and/or patient information.
  • Enters patient charges daily.
  • Supplies labels for specimen.
  • Places results, reports and special forms in proper order and sequence on the patient medical record.
  • Records messages and distributes to appropriate persons.
  • Delivers and picks up mail from mailroom as needed, and distributes to the proper persons.
  • Obtains unit supplies from Pyxis/Materials Management as needed.
Communication:
  • Communicates patient information to registered nurse and others as appropriate.
  • Completes and reports care provided before leaving the nursing unit.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of patient information and the medical record.
  • Protects the patient’s right to privacy at all times.
  • Greets patients, guests, physicians and other department personnel, answers inquires, and offers assistance in a courteous and polite manner.
  • Receives messages over the telephone, intercom, Computer, FAX, and transmits information to appropriate personnel while protecting patient’s privacy and the integrity of the information.
  • Answers patient call lights promptly and communicates requests to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assists physicians and other professional staff to locate patient’s medical records, lab reports or other data.
  • Communicates supply and repair needs to the nurse manager or the appropriate department.
  • Familiarizes self with hospital and department policies and procedures in order to expedite services, and transmit messages or information to patients, visitors, staff or physicians.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • STNA certification or CNA complete
  • Proficiency with multiple computer programs
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to be exposed to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays, as necessary
