Parks and Grounds Maintenance Worker II

The City of Urbana, Ohio is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Parks & Grounds Maintenance Worker II, under the direction of the Parks and Grounds Supervisor. Mows and maintains park, City grounds, nuisance properties and open spaces areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows weeds; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; drags ball fields; lines fields for games. Assists in the maintenance of the municipal swimming pool facility. Inspects, washes, and performs routine maintenance of park drinking fountains and restrooms. Sweeps, washes, paints and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs. Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs on lawn and power equipment. Plants trees, shrubs, flowers and various other landscaping tasks. Carries out the seeding and fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and the pest and weed control of the City’s parks, grounds and open spaces. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions. Performs custodial work such as required and assigned.

The qualifications for this position include the following:
 Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
 Any combinations of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.
 Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance;
 Some knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs;
 Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions;  Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
 Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule;
 Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions;
 Ability to communicate orally;
 Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely;
 Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions;
 Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

​The City of Urbana, Ohio is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Administrative Assistant in the Engineering Division, under the direction of the City Engineer. Performs regular clerical and administrative work, receiving the public, providing customer assistance. Establishes and maintains filing systems, and indexes using moderate independent judgment. Receives and distributes incoming mail. Prepares and processes outgoing mail; Receives the public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from employees, citizens and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons. Manages the web-based Zoning & Compliance Violation processes, including, but not limited to preparing Notice of Violation and follow up letters, coordinating inspections, preparing affidavits and records database. Schedules Board/Commission meetings & appointments, and performs other administrative and clerical duties. Prepares, and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment as to content, accuracy & completeness; i.e. Zoning, Nuisance and Engineering notices & Commission correspondence.

The qualifications for this position include the following:
 Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as word processing, filing, basic bookkeeping, and
 Two (2) years of increasingly responsible related experience, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
 Working knowledge of computer operating systems and electronic data processing; working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; basic knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
 Ability to learn and operate web-based software.
 Skill in operation of standard office equipment.
 Ability to perform cashier duties accurately; ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations

The City of Urbana, Ohio is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Zoning Officer.  The Zoning Officer works in the Administration Department, under the direction of the City Engineer.  The primary duties include issuing zoning permits, and site inspections, enforcement of various City Codes, including, but not limited to, sidewalk maintenance, sign, and other related zoning codes, ensuring compliance with current City of Urbana ordinances and resolutions, while working to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of our community. The normal work schedule is 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with the ability to attend and participate in City Council meetings, as well as schedule, prepare and conduct meetings of the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, Design Review Board and Board of Nuisance Appeals meetings. Additional meetings and special projects may be assigned, as needed; must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.  Applicant must be able to obtain Certified Floodplain Manager certification within one year of hire. 
 
The qualifications for this position include the following:
  • An Associate’s degree in a public service, construction management, urban planning, architecture, real estate or civil engineering related field. A bachelor’s degree in a public service, construction management, urban planning, architecture, real estate or civil engineering related field is preferred.  Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered. 
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office, especially, Word, Excel and PowerPoint (willing to learn other applications, as needed). Ability to become proficient in operating a web-based nuisance data tracking system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all people in a productive, professional, and customer-friendly manner; Ability to communicate effectively by phone, in-person, and by written correspondence.  
  • Knowledge in zoning and/or planning fundamentals and concepts is preferred. 
  • Ability to comprehend, apply, and enforce City, State, and other relevant codes and regulations.
  • Ability to make decisions in a fair, impartial, and reasonable manner.
  • Ability to read plans and other engineering documents, and complete relevant independent research with the appropriate county office(s), including the county’s Recorder, Building Dept. and Engineer.

​The City of Urbana is seeking applications for the position of firefighter/paramedic. 3. High school graduate or GED

6. Must successfully pass all of the following tests:
     A. Written aptitude/knowledge
     B. Physical agility
     C. Physical condition

7. The applicant shall also participate in an unassembled test        evaluating his/her successful completion of specific         training. The score of this test shall combine with the written aptitude/knowledge test as follows:
     A. The written aptitude/knowledge test shall have a passing score of 70% and shall have a weighted value of 80% towards the final score. The unassembled test will be scored only after a successful completion of the aptitude/knowledge test and shall have a weighted value of 20% towards the final score. The unassembled test will have no minimum passing score.
     B. The unassembled test will be scored as follows:
            • 40% Firefighter certification (Ohio Level II )
            • 60% Paramedic certification (State of Ohio   
            • 25% EMTB or Advanced EMT State of Ohio certification                (when not claiming Paramedic points)

Qualified veterans with a passing written score may receive up to five points added to their final score. Persons hired will be required to obtain certification as an Ohio Level II Firefighter, Ohio Paramedic and Ohio Certified Fire Safety Inspector and maintain those certifications as a condition of employment.

The written aptitude/knowledge test will be given at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Champaign County Community Center located at 1512 S US Hwy 68, Urbana, Ohio. The Village of Mechanicsburg is seeking a Water Operator with a Class I Water license and a Wastewater Operator with a Class II Wastewater license.

The successful candidate(s) will be in charge of the plants and work with the existing staff to operate and maintain the facilities. Position can be full time for an Operator with both W/WW license – 40 hours per week. This would be a salaried position. If Operators were hired separately this could be part time hourly position. Emergency work, weekend work and evening work will be required. Rate of pay is competitive but dependent on experience and certifications. Mechanicsburg is an EOE.

The City of Urbana is currently accepting applications for the position of: Income Tax Clerk. This full-time position is in the Finance Department located at 225 South Main Street in Urbana. The Finance Department’s normal operating hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday.
​
The individual in this position responds to telephone calls and in-person inquiries regarding the city’s income tax filing requirements; assists with preparing and reviewing taxpayer returns; performs data entry; assists with all other tasks and duties related to municipal income tax collection; and, as necessary, provides back-up to other finance related positions.

This position will require an extensive amount of on the job training to include interpretation and application of local ordinances; office protocol; and learning the current finance office software.

Minimum education requirements include a high school graduate or GED equivalent with specialized course work in general office or accounting practices. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook are also desirable. The ideal candidate should have an accounting and tax background along with excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public; and, the ability to work effectively with fellow employees.

Salary range is $13.76 - $16.00 per hour, with the starting salary commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, paid holidays and membership in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS).
