Summer Camp Counselor

CRSI
CRSI is seeking Summer Camp Counselors for Developmentally Disabled Youths in Urbana. This is a temporary position, and will be working together with the Champaign County YMCA.

Basic Function:
  • Provide leadership and guidance of a group of up to twelve day campers, ages 7 to 13, with developmental disabilities
  • Will participate in conducting general camp program, cooperate with the entire staff in working together for the welfare of the camp and campers, and maintain a positive working relationship with other staff
  • To assist and support campers in either a work environment or a day service program environment within a structured setting and/or out in the community based upon camper desires and programming opportunities
  • Counselors are expected to assist campers to learn new skills and work towards maintaining existing skills as well as assisting the camper to choose and engage in activities of the day

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Participate in all training activities that are provided by the camp that aids you in personal growth and skill development (including pre-camp orientation).
  • Auditory and visual ability to respond to critical incidents.
  • Ability to perform routine first aid tasks.
  • Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Physical ability to operate van and all tie-downs and emergency features.
  • Ability to plan activities that help all campers experience success.
  • Ability to safely perform personal care needs with respect and dignity for the campers.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Be a friend and leader to each camper in your group to promote improved camper self-image and good group relationships.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of each weekly schedule at day camp, including planning and leading activities for your own group.
  • Interpret health and safety regulations to the group.
  • Observe each camper daily and check for cuts, bruises, skin rashes, or other indications of illness or injury.
  • Report all Unusual Incidents to their immediate supervisor.
  • Ride the camp bus for camper pick-up and drop-off at least once a week, providing songs, games, and stories, in addition to enforcing safety precautions during the trip.
  • When not riding the bus, meet the bus and any other campers upon their arrival in camp.
  • Help the campers with daily self-maintenance tasks: i.e., collecting and refrigerating lunches upon arrival at camp and eating lunch together; helping your campers prepare for daily activities; and being sure all personal belongings get home each night.
  • Promote good manners at mealtime and encourage common courtesies in serving, passing, and eating of food.
  • Prepare camper progress reports and award certificates.
  • Offer guidance in-group and camp-wide activities.
  • Keep camp supplies and equipment in good shape, including putting them away when finished with a project.
  • Set a positive example recognizing at all times be aware that you are a "model" to all campers and to other staff.
  • Assist as needed with camper check-in and check-out to insure full counselor-parent communication at beginning and end of each session.

  • Represent CRSI in a positive light when engaging other community entities, agencies and/or families of people with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older and be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid, current driver’s license and an acceptable police record
  • Must have at least one year experience working with youth and exhibit emotional maturity, good moral character, integrity and dependability
  • 100% attendance is expected
  • Ability to work independently and with other counselors to conduct Summer Program Curriculum, program activities, field trips
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations and campers’ needs
  • Have a genuine interest in the development of youth

Lab Tester- Entry Level

Weidmann Electrical Technology
A summer lab position is available at Weidmann Electrical Technology. This is a temporary position expected for a minimum of 12 weeks, May-August preferably, with the potential to train in April on a different schedule if preferred.

Schedule:
  • Full-time, 40 hrs a week
  • OT expected would be up to an additional 10-15 hours a week

This is on a rotating schedule. 12-5-5 with holidays off. With this schedule, the employee will work:
  1. 12 days on, have a weekend off
  2. 5 days on, have a weekend off
  3. 5 days on, have a weekend off
  4. Start again with 12 days.

When the employee comes back from a weekend, they will work a different shift cycling through 1st, 3rd, and 2nd shift in that order.

Pay:
  • $23.20/hr, experience considered
  • Additional $3/hr in swing pay on top of the base rate

Experience:
  • Lab experience preferred or;
  • Entry level with lab understanding or;
  • Experience with inventory/data entry.

Temporary Substitute Teacher

Madison Champaign ESC is hiring Temporary Substitute Teachers to help students in our districts.

A Temporary Substitute is one who does not hold a post-secondary degree. Instead, the applicant has been out of high school for a minimum of two years and holds an Associate's degree. This position is still required to have background checks completed. They must also obtain a non-renewable temporary substitute teaching license from ODE and attend a half-day training provided by the Madison-Champaign ESC. All potential assignments will end on June 30.

The days are Monday - Friday from 8:45am - 4:15pm
