Stock Room Attendant

Shaffer Manufacturing in Urbana is seeking a full-time Stock Room Attendant. The Stock Room attendant produces and fills requested need for parts or supplies by utilizing communication skills, computer, company pickup and parts inventory knowledge to maintain inventories efficiently. The person in this role must be able to work with everyone in the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain Inventories
    • Determine correct parts and supply levels
    • Organize, label and maintain parts room layout and shelving
    • Maintain inventory levels
    • Develop performance enhancement plans, document performance, provide feedback and formally evaluate the work of the employees
    • Ensure facilitation and implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and provide support on disposition of materials
    • Lead efforts to reconcile inventory discrepancies determine root cause and provide monthly reports to Management on inventory accuracy

    • Insure that LGS, Customer and consigned supplier inventories are accurate and oversee customer cycle counts and audits in the Stock Room
    • Serve as role model to promote Stock Room service model and Product Solutions team collaboration
    • Exceptional organizational and warehouse logistics skills
  • Communicate Effectively
    • Exchange information with co-workers and management
    • Contact vendors via telephone or fax to purchase parts and supplies
    • Check price and availability of parts and supplies via telephone or fax
    • Research parts and equipment for proper application and purchasing
  • Complete paperwork
    • Review “Pull List” and follow-up on any discrepancies with the appropriate persons
    • Generate Reports as needed
    • Be cross trained in all areas of the Materials Department
  • Utilize Tools and Equipment
    • Drive company vehicles to pick up parts from local vendors
    • Use computer to maintain inventory
    • Use standard office equipment as needed (copy and fax machines, etc.)
    • Keep parts office and room clean and follow GMP’s

Job Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum six months experience utilizing office procedures (working in an office setting).
  • Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Good communication Skills
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Personally invested in the success of the business.
  • Motivated, focused and accountable for results.

Physical Requirements:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift upwards of 50 pounds.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to complete paperwork and do inventories, distance vision to drive and move through the plant, color vision to recognize color coded paperwork and other items, peripheral vision to drive and walk through the plant, depth perception to drive and stock inventory, and the ability to adjust focus to drive and ensure the safety of others.
  • Work with vendors when needed
  • The position will interact and communicate effectively with all employees in the plant
